NPR’s Mara Liasson says unmarried women are the single most important demographic in this year’s elections. While they are reliable supporters for the Democrats when they do vote, they are not reliable voters. (Alex Brandon/AP)

This year, both Republicans and Democrats are paying particular attention to women voters. At 53 percent, female voters make up more than half of the electorate, and could be a significant key to determining who holds the Senate in November.

Republicans have had a long-term problem attracting women voters in general, but this year it might be Democrats who face that problem.

NPR National Politics Correspondent Mara Liasson joins Here & Now’s Meghna Chakrabarti to discuss the critical role women could play in the 2014 midterm elections, as part of NPR’s series “She Votes.”
