Love to hear you guys talking about Australian music.  I listen to Triple J everyday, great way to keep a pulse on new music that hasn’t blown up here yet.  There’s a lot of amazing music coming out of there, and I’ve been able to catch a bunch of the bands around Portland.

I gotta say, I am not impressed with these new bands and the “new” sounds coming out of Austrailia, or for that matter the UK or US. The music is at best, generic. Nothing about it is inspiring or moving. It is bland and boring. The musicians don’t demonstrate any skill with their instruments. It seems to be merely computer samples layerd together without much throught to composition.

I think you’ll find Lorde is from New Zealand.

Perhaps not so “new” but I think the American scene could use more exposure to “The Cat Empire”.  I found out about them when I was living in Australia in college and they have been my favorite band since.  So great live!  Sad I missed them coming to Boston this year.
