Genome Sequencing Alters Treatment Of Cancer

Nini Tint, a technician for Celera Genomics, loads DNA samples onto a DNA Sequencer machine in the company’s Rockville, Md., lab. (AP)

Doctors and researchers are working on a new technique for stopping cancer. It’s called genome sequencing, decoding both the cancer cells in a tumor and the healthy cells in the patient.

They’re looking for the genes that drive a cancer and what they are finding is that one woman’s breast cancer may have different genetic drivers than another woman’s and in fact may have more in common with a man’s prostate cancer or another patient’s lung cancer.

The result is a cocktail of treatment with different drugs, similar to the tratment for HIV.

The new developments are chronicled in a New York Times series this week, written by reporter Gina Kolata. The Times reports:

Researchers differ about how soon the method, known as whole genome sequencing, will be generally available and paid for by insurance — estimates range from a few years to a decade or so. But they believe that it has enormous promise, though it has not yet cured anyone.

With a steep drop in the costs of sequencing and an explosion of research on genes, medical experts expect that genetic analyses of cancers will become routine. Just as pathologists do blood cultures to decide which antibiotics will stop a patient’s bacterial infection, so will genome sequencing determine which drugs might stop a cancer.

This report gives me hope for children like my son. It also grieves me terribly that the breakthrough comes too late for him. My 9-year-old died in 2008 from hepatocellular carcinoma. No one could explain why this liver cancer turned up in a child who had not been touched by hepatitis. This cancer usually effects chronic alcoholics and IV drug users. His mild symptoms and complaints never sparked his pediatrician to investigate for cancer; pediatricians tend to look for infectious disease. By the time the mass in his liver was discovered, there were cancer cells in the portal vein, which meant he was not a candidate for liver transplant. The tumor seemed to grow more quickly than is typical, and the liver ruptured. Between diagnosis and death from internal bleeding, my son lived a month. In the wake of this traumatic loss, we have not donated money to specific research on hepatocellular carcinoma in children. It is too rare for any pharmaceutical company to want to put much time or attention into b/c the potential return on investment is too low. A focus on genome sequencing seems to hold a great deal of promise, and I want to find a way to support this research. It makes so much sense to me. I have a relative suffering from a rare type of lymphoma right now, and I would love to see him saved through treatment like this. I want to see this accelerate. I feel great urgency even as I feel a certain level of dread.

I found this story as usual quite a appointment. Blame it on genes, but no one word mentioned of one’s diet and lifestyle.
Dr. Otto Warburg found out in the late 1920′s that cancers grew best in a medium rich in sugars, but that cancer cells died in the presence of  oxygen. The Standard American Diet(SAD) of overprocessed, fragmented, devitalized, chemicalized, GMO ladened, dead and stale foods is what is killing the population.
The answer from allopathic medicine is treatment. And those require all kinds of toxic drugs which are expensive.
There is big money in the ill, ailing and dying across the land.
I have know several people over the years which various stages of cancer who cured themselves without drugs by changing their diets. Also some resorted to the use of medical ozone, basically banned in the US by the folks of Big Pharma and their friends in the FDA.

Cancer is a big business across the land. If you actually ever admitted to finding a cure for them, all those research jobs would dry up. You have to keep the masses employed at all and any costs in capitalism. Its all about business.

As a retired physician, I can honestly say that unless you are in a serious accident, YOUR BEST CHANCE OF LIVING TO A RIPE OLD AGE IS TO AVOID DOCTORS AND HOSPITALS AND LEARN NUTRITION, HERBAL MEDICINE AND OTHER FORMS OF NATURAL MEDICINE [i.e. PREVENTION]. Almost all drugs are toxic and are designed only to treat symptoms and not to cure anyone. Most surgery is unnecessary. In short, our mainstream medical system is hopelessly inept and/or corrupt. THE TREATMENT OF CANCER AND DEGENERATIVE DISEASES IS A NATIONAL SCANDAL. The sooneryou learn this, the better off you will be.Dr. Allan Greenberg on 12/24/2002

“The goal of curing the victims of cancer is more exciting, more tangible, more glamorous and rewarding than prevention… To prevent cancer from ever being formed is definitely more humane and much more effective than cancer cures.”       Dr. Wilhelm Hueper

“Over and over I explain to patients, ‘Your pain, misery and illness results from your own dietary mistakes and drugs. You are suffering because you are filled with toxic wastes caused by your diet of poorly selected food filled with artificial flavorings, preservatives, synthetics, and over-processed ingredients—too much stimulating food and too few natural vitamins from vegetables and fruits….’ “Henry G. Bieler, MDFood is Your Best Medicine

One thing to remember people with the passing of Obama health or death care law.All forms of alternative medicines are not covered.  So you mandated to have health insurance for something you may not want. If you want to seek out alternative medical treatments, then you can pay extra. This is the biggest scam on the American people since the Flexner Report of 1911 which made allopathic medicine a monopoly.Beware of the medical-industrial complex and now the insurance racket. This is what America is becoming, a Nanny State,  a Police State and Surveillance State. The land of the free and home of the homeless.     “Nothing offends patients more than to be asked to change their habits of life. Their desire is to be able to break every known law of health; then when they are called upon to pay the penalty, the expect complete absolution in a bottle or two of medicine. They are content to be patched up sufficiently to continue their practice of self-indulgence in various forms.”              …Dr. Alexander Bryce…

“And we have made of ourselves living cesspools, and
driven doctors to invent names for our diseases.”    Â

Getting back to Dr. Otto Warburg, who the mainstream medical community has ignored, considering he was given the Nobel Prize for this work in 1931 about cancers and sugar consumption.

And one more item from Denis Burkitt. Mr. Burkitt’s research on fiber in the diet was the basis for David Reuben’s book from 1975. Â
The save-your-life diet: High-fiber protection from six of the most serious diseases of civilization

“People love genetics as an explanation for disease. If a disease is said to be genetic, you don’t have to do anything about it. However, if a disease has an environmental cause, the individual, whether a patient or clinician has a responsibility for making the change or changes to eliminate or control the disease.”  —Denis P. Burkitt

    Erik Enby on modern medicine:

“Medical science is like a religion”, said Erik Enby, a Swedish clinician. “If you don’t toe the line and follow the doctrine of the high priests, then you are subject to an inquisition.  In fact, a lot of today’s research can only be described as intellectual incest or inbreeding: generation after generation of medical people building careers by doing much of the same work as those who came before them. With this narrow-minded approach, it should come as no surprise that mavericks with provocative ideas…are not tolerated well by the status quo.”

This is typical NPR reporting from National Pharmaceutical Radio.    Medical science and the latest they have to offer. Another so called step into finding a cure. They will never admit to any cures, there is too much money in treating diseases. And look who sponsors much of NPR.
But where’s the reporting of anything “alternative” to allopathic medicine. Little to none.
The less the media talks about it the better.Â
If its based on “natural medicine”, its suppressed or ignored. Little money in it compared to the billions that can be raked in with the monopoly of “treatment only” medicine.

As Cicero stated long ago.  When you find the cause, you have found the cure.

Thanks Teh for all your comments on this topic. Its ashame that for most Americans they are too ignorant to see how they are being manipulated, indoctrinated and herded to only drug medicine among other things in this culture.
When it comes to the medical monopoly concerning drugs its this:

    FAB of drugs:
Don’t talk about drug side effects, talk about FABÂ
Features, Advantages and Benefits of the drugs.

If the drug side effects don’t maim or kill you, there are those nosocomial infections from hospitals and also doctor induced(iatrogenic) diseases.
The number 3 killer of Americans are doctors. Look it up.

Americans think they are free, but its all an illusion. The mainstream media is part of this scam  of selling you all this false hope. Big Pharma is the enemy.
Go back to Mother Nature people.

One-quarter of what you eat keeps you alive. Â
The other three-quarters keeps your doctor alive. Â
(Hieroglyph found in an ancient Egyptian tomb.)

For those who don’t have time to care for their own bodies, then buyer beware.
The choices presented currently to the public are all the same- more drugs.
Its the drugs that kill off the patient before the disease.

    Good comments here.

The way the system keeps it all together has been labelled MIMAC.

Military Industrial Media Academic Complex. You could add another “M” or just change military over to medical.
Your two biggest complexes within the US for job creation schemes. Monopolies basically as stated elsewhere like their corporate buddies over at Big Pharma, Big Food, Big Oil, Big Media and Big Government. Fascism taken to the next level.

Add to add the “Media” part and it can be summed up from what Nelson Rockefeller stated in Foreign Affairs Magazine back in the late 1960′s.

    M=m3   MANIPULATION = MONEY x MEDIA x MANPOWER

Control the content and flow of information and you can shape the minds of the people.
    MIND CONTROL at its finest.

You can thank Edward L. Bernays and Ivy Lee for that. The masters of spin and public relations.

He who controls the media controls the world.

The problem with your view of what is real science and what is “moneyed science” is abysmal.
You deserve what your authorities and government feeds you all.
Wake up, but its probably too late for that.

DNA sequencing for detecting chronic bacterial infections is another way medical diagnostics might transform medical. In fact, PCR saved my life by detecting an infection that culturing (150 years old!) missed. That’s what my film is about: Why Am I Still Sick? It will be released next month. How many Americans have chronic bacterial infections that are untreated? TENS of millions. It’s hard to wrap your brain around the facts!
