US Considers Arming Rebels, Admits To CIA Role In Libya

Libyan rebels are in rapid retreat as Moammar Gadhafi’s forces press eastward, but the Libyan regime suffered a major defection, with longtime foreign minister Moussa Koussa fleeing to London. British officials have declined to give him immunity, but hope for hard intelligence from him.

Meanwhile, the U.S. admitted yesterday that C.I.A. teams are on the ground in Libya, and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is on Capitol Hill today answering questions about the U.S. role and objectives in the Libyan campaign.
