Rescuers Halt Search in West Virginia Mine Disaster

Dangerous gases have forced rescue crews to call off, for now, the search for four coal miners missing since an explosion killed 25 colleagues in the worst U.S. mining disaster in more than two decades earlier this week. The crews entered the mine in Montcoal early this morning and got within 1,000 feet of a rescue area where officials thought the miners might be. Beth Vorhees of West Virginia Public Radio joins us with the latest.

Woods Tees Off At Masters, Nike Tees Off With New Ad

Tiger Woods ends his five month hiatus from professional golf today. He tees off at the Masters in Augusta, Georgia just as Nike releases a new Tiger TV ad. It features audio from Tiger’s late dad, Earl Woods, and has been called everything from brilliant (ad executives) to creepy (most everyone else). Despite all the controversy, Woods is favored to win a fifth green jacket. Sean Gregory of Time Magazine brings us the latest.

We speak with Geoff Edgers, a reporter for the Boston Globe, who as he was approaching the age of 40 went on a mission to reunite the favorite band of his youth, The Kinks. Problem is: the band’s two founding brothers, Ray and Dave Davies, haven’t spoken to each other in years. Undeterred, Edgers sets off on a quixotic quest to bring the brothers together and documents his effort in a film called, “Do It Again.”

- There are things we agree on with Israel and things we don’t
- and Netanyahu thinks building in the occupied territories is one of them
- and Israel thinks that is one thing we don’t need to agree on

Then let’s agree to not agree on this:
If Israel chooses to build in the occupied territories, the USA should choose to no longer support them with our money.

There is no ‘miracle’ in Israel existing for 6 decades in a hostile environment. We, the USA, have supported them unconditionally for 6 decades with money and weapons. Without the blind support of the USA, Israel would not exist, in fact, would never have existed.

And no, I have no dog in this fight. I am neither Israeli nor Palestinian, Jewish nor Muslim. It just makes me very angry that we expect other countries to abide by UN resolutions yet only slap Israel on the hand when they refuse. Saddam Hussein would be alive and still in power in Iraq if we held him to the same standards.

Once again you & your pro Israeli commentators distort the facts. Hamas “took over” gaza? Many people beleive that Hamas won the election. The PLO, armed and sbacked by israel and the US refused to allow them to form a government. Finally Hamas forced the PLO warlords out of gaza but are being prevented from governing all of the occupied territories by Israel and its US supplied f-16 attack jets and its US supplied attack heliocopters, among other wweapons.

And did you really ask wether the Palistineans are “ready” to govern themselves? Doesn’t that sound a lot like southerners saying that African-Americans aren’t ready to vote and get education? Perhaps like American politicans defending the sout african aparthid regime by saying that Africans aren’t ready for citizenship?

And did you really say that Palisttineans aren’t ready for “one state” becausae gthey don’t have a functioning democracy? Once again, didn’t the Plaistineans actually have an election that deomcratically replced one political party with another one, only to have the US and Israel keep the defeated party in power?

And do you really think that israel is a “functioning democracy” when Israeli/Arabs are denied access to public benefits and are denied the rightto buy land that that only Jewish israelis can purchase? Once again, it is similar to the claim the S. Africa aparthid regime was democratic even though it prevented the African 80% of the population from any civil rights.

And, by the way, Hamas has stated time and again that if the Palistinean people voted in a referendum to accept a two party state, Hamas would accept it. It is the israeli government, including Likud, that refuses to accept a two state solution.
