Intelligence Failures in Attempted Christmas Bombing

President Obama said there was a systemic failure to connect the dots ahead of the attempted Christmas Day terrorist bombing aboard a Detroit bound passenger aircraft. We get the latest from the Wall Street Journal’s Evan Perez on who knew what when, as well as more on the suspect’s ties to Yemen, where the group Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has claimed responsibility for the attempted attack.

Child Care Expert Penelope Leach

Hundreds gathered in Northampton, Massachusetts last night to meet with the city’s mayor and fire and police officials after 11 suspicious fires in houses and cars were reported this weekend. Authorities say they suspect arson and wonder if they are connected to mysterious fires in the past. We’ll speak to Gerry Budgar, president of the Ward Three Neighborhood Association.

    I agree with Penelope Leach – who wouldn’t? But the child care/maternity leave issue continues to ignore the main question:

    Why do people have children when they cannot afford to care for them?

Okemah, Okla., is the birthplace of folk legend Woody Guthrie. It’s also the hometown of singer-songwriter John Fullbright, who at just 24, is already being compared with folk great Townes Van Zandt.
