Obama Pushes for Universal Healthcare
President Obama’s $3.5 trillion dollar budget includes a $634 billion down payment on universal health care. The money will come from raising taxes on the wealthy, and cutting payments to insurers, hospitals, doctors, and drug makers. Our guest is Noam Levey of the Los Angeles Times.
Early Cancer Detection
When some cancers, including ovarian cancer, are detected early 90% of patients have a ten year survival rate. When the cancer is caught late only 10% survive. Still, most cancer research money goes towards curing cancer, rather than detecting it. Wired deputy editor Tom Goetz explains why. Tap dancer Jane Goldberg looks back on her life in tap in her new book “Shoot Me While I’m Happy: Memories from the Tap Goddess of the Lower East Side.” In the 70s Goldberg sought out the forgotten stars of tap, studied with them, and ended up helping spark the revival of tap, during which Gregory Hines and Savion Glover became stars.
